Understanding Absorbency Levels in Wicks Garments

A guide to Wicks absorbency levels and how to select the right absorbency for you.

At Wicks, we create absorbent lingerie for women at all stages of life. While we have some specialist pieces for either period management or bladder leaks specifically, all will function across both use cases as the specialist pieces are more about fit than function.

Our pieces are anti-odour and antimicrobial, to keep you feeling fresh and confident throughout the day.

From heavy postpartum bleeding to everyday light bladder leaks, ovulation, spotting, and those “just in case” days, each absorbency level has been carefully engineered to support you with comfort, discretion, and ease. 

This guide walks you through each absorbency level, what the icons represent, and what’s happening beneath the surface.

All Day Fresh

One absorbent layer, no waterproof backing.

The All Day Fresh range is a completely new concept in lingerie. They are designed for everyday wear and we get emails almost daily from customers who can't believe this isn't a thing already. 

All Day Fresh pieces will keep you fresh on long days, or while ovulating for example. They are the perfect long-haul travel companion and an easy alternative for women who experience very light bladder leaks if they laugh of cough suddenly for example. There are myriad reasons women are loving All Day Fresh pieces.

These pieces are made to keep you feeling fresh, without feeling like you’re “managing” anything at all. Our best sellers are the Emanate II in Shell; the Anything But Basic II in Dusky pink; and the Striation Thong in Forest (the perfect workout thong).

Each garment includes:

• A soft organic cotton lining against the skin
• Light absorbent layer made from organic cotton
• No waterproof layer, allowing for breathability and a barely-there fee

Moderate Absorbency

For reliable protection

Moderate absorbency is where performance and versatility meet.

Designed for those who manage light bladder leaks every day, those on medium flow period days, or those who simply want more reassurance during perimenopause and its unpredictable periods. Our moderate absorbent pieces feel like normal underwear but absorb up to 15mL, which for context is the equivalent of a tablespoon or two tampons.

Each moderate absorbent garment includes:

• An organic cotton lining for comfort against the skin
• Organic cotton absorbent layering
• A discreet waterproof barrier to prevent leaks

This layered construction allows for dependable absorbency, while still maintaining the softness and wearability Wicks is known for.

A note on the Striation Thong

The Striation thong in black uses the same absorbent layering technology as our moderate pieces however, because it has less surface area (being a thong), it is classified as light absorbency.

Heavy Absorbency

For deeper protection, designed with care

Our heavy absorbency pieces are engineered for days when you need more from your underwear. You may need high absorbency for bladder leaks that need a little more management, heavy period days, overnight wear, or simply peace of mind.

Our heavy absorbency pieces can absorb 30mL of liquid, which for context is the equivalent of 5 tampons. Or an easier way to think of it might be the shot of vodka in your Friday martini.

Each high absorbency garment includes:

• An organic cotton lining
• Multiple layers of organic cotton absorbency
• A waterproof barrier for maximum protection
• Extended absorbent area

The Emily

The Emily is our most absorbent piece. It is thoughtfully designed with an extended absorbent area that reaches up to just shy of the waistband at both the front and back. 

This increased surface area allows The Emily to absorb 30mL comfortably, and often a little more depending on factors like garment size and how the piece is worn (for example, whether you’re lying down or moving throughout the day).

The Emily was designed off the back of customer requests. One customer in particular (you guessed it, her name was Emily!) told us exactly what she needed and couldn't find elsewhere. This high absorbency piece is perfect for those who need extra absorbency.
